About

One goal: every child's potential, realized.

The Melrose Parent Teacher Action Network is parents, teachers, staff and community members who enrich the educational experience of every child at Melrose Elementary.

Meetings

First Monday of every month, 5:30pm, in the Melrose library.

We discuss and plan upcoming events, Scrip promotions, volunteer opportunities and how PTAN's money is spent. The Melrose community is welcome and encouraged to attend — and your children are welcome too. Please ask the office about any postponements or cancellations.

Can't make meetings? Many parents help from home or in short shifts. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, time and voice are needed — see volunteering.

A welcome letter to Melrose families

Dear Melrose Families,

Whether you are a new or returning Melrose Family, the Melrose Parent Teacher Action Network (PTAN) would like to welcome you to our school.

People often state that the reason they do not participate in their local PTAN is because no one ever asked them. So let's get right to it... we are asking for your participation. One of the most important aspects of our school's success is our high level of parent involvement. As the new school year begins, we ask for your support so that we can continue making resources and learning opportunities available to our students and Melrose staff.

PTAN coordinates volunteers, provides funding for additional Instructional Assistant hours, school supplies for every student, Chromebook computers, and special events such as the Melrose Carnival, Curriculum/Science Fair, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Night, last day of school events and much more.

For PTAN to be effective and truly representative of the school, everyone's participation is essential. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in PTAN because they cannot come to meetings or be on campus during the day. We want everyone to feel that they are part of the Melrose Community. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, time, talents, and simply your voice is truly needed. We can match your time constraints and interests to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help.

Volunteering – By volunteering at our school, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference. What better way to show our kids how important their education is than by showing up. Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades and fewer discipline problems. We promise that the time you give to PTAN and the school will be worth your while – and fun! Please consider volunteering, it really does make a difference in the lives of all our students!

Programs and Events – You can also show your support by participating in the numerous events and programs that we have planned throughout the year. Your participation might be that of a committee member, volunteer, or merely as an attendee. Whatever level of participation you select, your time and involvement will certainly be appreciated.

Fundraising – We also encourage participation in our Annual Melrose Auction and our "no cost to you" fundraisers. PTAN raises thousands in revenue annually through the Scrip Gift Card Program and Fred Meyer Community Rewards.

We would like to thank you in advance for your support. Working together we can achieve amazing things. You will also receive updates on PTAN and other school news in your child's weekly Wednesday Folder. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Have a wonderful school year and we hope to see you at our PTAN meeting the first Monday of each month @ 5:30pm.

Sincerely,
Your PTAN Team
